The concept

2016: Google Magenta – an AI that creates music – is announced. It isn’t great, but shows promise.

2018: Magenta is paired with advanced humanizing techniques and high-quality synthesis. It starts to sound pretty good.

2021: Several dozen AIs are on the scene, specializing in Pop, Horror, Comedic, and a host of other genres. Most user created content uses these early AIs – as they are cheaper than licensing existing music.

2023: The first major feature film composed entirely by a computer opens.

2024: More music is created by AIs than people.

The year is now 2026. Working composers have pretty much been replaced by AIs that take existing music, analyze media, and crank out endless variations.

For now, I’m doing it the old-fashioned way. Taking the DNA of music samples you choose, I combine them into something new that fits the needs of your project. I imagine this is how things will work in the future – but I’m doing it now! Just a LOT slower.

Fireflies and Stardust


Some beautiful rural americana-type music. I mean, just listen to that!
It is an 8 piece ensemble, and everyone is playing a lot of notes, yet it remains so simple.
Okay, the violins aren’t playing that many notes… had to pick up the 2nd violin off the waiver wires, and there wasn’t enough time to get her up to speed on the offense for this piece. So we made an executive decision, and kept things simple. We should still be able to get some good yardage here, and hope to win on defense.

Fearless Dixie Thoughts!

Before you complain about the bass, that is the entire point of this mix. It is scary-bass… yet somehow subdued. If this bass was a car, it would be a cement mixer… That’s a terrible analogy. Forgetting for the moment that a cement mixer isn’t a car… I guess they have the ones that are mounted on big trucks – and those trucks share a lot in common with cars, you know steering wheels, engines, tires, and the soon-to-be-anachronistic internal combustion engine. Anyway, if you don’t like the bass you can pretty easily EQ it to a reasonable level, or buy the stems and remix it yourownself.
Before you complain about the use of the word “yourownself”, I wrote it. You understood it. It is a word. There is also some dreamy flute in here.

You know that sound that was big in 80s dance music with that sort of galloping doo-do-do-DAH-do-do-doo-do-do-DAH thing? This has a thing like that, but in really, really complex drum sound. You need to wait until 16 seconds in to hear what the doo-do-do-DAH-do-do-doo-do-do-DAH sounds like. I know it can be difficult reading KRN (Kevin’s Rhythmic Notation). A-do-do-dooo-a-da-da-daaah is all I want to say to you.
